Alex Vandermaas-Peeler is a PhD student in the Political Science Department at George Washington University, where she concentrates on international relations and comparative politics. Her research interests are in gendered perspectives on conflict and human rights, specifically the roles women serve in conflict and peacebuilding, sexual violence in conflict and genocide, and the proliferation of norms related to gender equality and violence against women in the international sphere.

Prior to her graduate studies she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Elon University, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She also worked in public opinion polling for PRRI, coauthoring 11 research reports on religion, culture, and politics. Additionally she worked for Atlantic 57, the creative and consulting division of the Atlantic, as a Research Associate.
