Each year the Department of Political Science presents awards to students that show outstanding leadership qualities and academic excellence.
2024 Student Award Winners
Howard C. Sacks Award (2 Recipients)
Julia Pitrowski
Julia is receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and will be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honors society. Entering GW, Julia understood the value of studying her major from professors at GW but also abroad. Seeking to broaden her understanding of different cultures and encounter international perspectives, Julia sought out the GW Global Bachelor's Program. She studied abroad at Universidad de Chile - Facultad de Economia y Negocios in Chile, Sciences Po Paris in France, and National Chengchi University in Taiwan. Her time abroad has strengthened her language skills, ability to adapt to new situations, and immersion into different cultures.
Joshua Evans III Prize (2 Recipients)
Carson Consiglio
Carson is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and minors in Music and Law & Society. Throughout his time at GW, Carson has worked within the Student Government Association as the Deputy Secretary of Student Justice to pass DEI-related initiatives and protect transgender rights on campus. Carson has also been very involved in the University Honors Program as well as the music community, where he has played drums in numerous concerts and musicals with GWU Bands. After graduation, Carson will be applying to law school, continuing with musical theatre, and catching up on reading books for fun.
Peyton Fillman
Peyton is graduating in May 2024 with a double major in Political Science and English & Creative Writing, with a minor in Law & Society. She is active on campus in many organizations, including InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and GW Club Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. During undergrad, she worked on Capitol Hill and interned at a non-profit in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio. She is grateful for all of the amazing friends and faculty she has met here at George Washington University, and she is excited to be heading to the University of Richmond School of Law in the fall.
Lee Sigelman Prize for the Study of Law (1 Recipient)
Aidan Turley
Aidan is receiving his bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs and Political Science, with a minor in History. He has used his time in D.C. to serve with the Senate Judiciary Committee, House Judiciary Committee, and Cato Institute, and will be joining the House Oversight Committee this Summer. He enjoys hiking, biking, and Broadway musicals. He will be going to Harvard Law School this Fall.
