Undergraduate Advising

The PSC Undergraduate Advising team works to 1- ensure the PSC undergraduate program runs transparently and equitably for all PSC students, and 2- support PSC undergraduates' professional development journeys. This means that we support students through registration, major and minor declarations, transfer credits, career exploration, event programming, student support, and more. Keep in mind that the PSC Advising team works specifically on PSC requirements and PSC courses- we are not a replacement for your college advisor- please check in with them about general education requirements. And, our advising team is not individually or jointly full time; please plan on a response within a few business days, and longer during registration and over university breaks.

You can connect with us in two ways:

  1. Over email. Please send all inquiries and documents to [email protected]. To efficiently and accurately track advising conversations, we will not respond to advising emails sent to our individual GWU email addresses.
  2. Advising office hours, both in person and on zoom. No need for an appointment- just stop by! We do not hold office hours during exams, university holidays, or breaks.

Students wishing to transfer credit for a course taken at another university must download the Transfer Credit Approval Form and send the form and a course syllabus to Professor Bauer.  If the course credit is approved, Dr. Bauer will return the transfer credit approval form to the student for submission to the Office of the Registrar for processing.

If the course taken for transfer is similar enough to a current GW Political Science Department course, the credits will transfer to that corresponding GW PSC course number. If GW does not offer the same course, the course transfers as PSC 1099 or PSC 2099, which counts as an upper-level elective credit towards the major. No courses ever transfer as a PSC 3192W or as PSC 3500.

Learn more about accepted transfer grades and credit limits on the Office of the Registrar website.
