Annelle Sheline

Annelle Sheline is the Zwan Postdoctoral Fellow at Rice University, jointly appointed by the Baker Institute's Center for the Middle East and the Boniuk Institute for Religious Tolerance. Her research focuses on religious authority in the Middle East, specifically the intersection of religious and national identities in the Arab monarchies. She analyzes the implications of combating violent extremism and encouraging religious tolerance in Jordan, Morocco, Oman and Saudi Arabia. She graduated with a PhD in political science in August 2018.


Annelle was the Director of the Elliott School of International Affairs' Dean's Scholars Program for 2017-2018. 
 
Trained as a Writing in the Discipline (WID) teaching assistant, she has served as a teaching assistant for WID designated (writing intensive) courses in comparative politics, international security, and Middle East politics.
