My interests are in international security, specifically alliance formation and terrorism. I am interested in looking at why states sometimes "overbalance" (i.e. exaggerate the threat posed by other states or non-state actors) and why some conflicts between states and non-state actors end in negotiated settlements as opposed to a protracted armed struggle.
