Undergraduate
With more than 800 students in the major, political science is one of GW’s most popular undergraduate programs. Students have the opportunity to examine special topics through research and courses that include The Internet and Politics, Supreme Court Decision-Making and Ethnic Politics in Eastern and Central Europe. Many students take advantage of our Washington, D.C., location to intern on Capitol Hill, at the White House and with local nongovernmental organizations, embassies and other agencies.
Our alumni have leveraged their classroom and practical experience into careers as researchers, public affairs specialists, analysts, campaign organizers and congressional staff members. Faculty members are award-winning thought leaders and authors in the field, and they share their expertise with students in large classes, small seminars and open-door office hours.

"One of my favorite #OnlyAtGW moments happened when I met Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor at a book signing here at GW. … She actually answered one of my questions that I had submitted. At the end I got to shake her hand and get a picture with her. It was an incredible experience."
